The Roland Hi-Fi Jet Pro (FJ 400/FJ 500/FJ 600) with "V8" variable drop printing combines orange and green inks, dilute cyan and
magenta inks, and variable dot capability all in one package. This creates an
exceptionally large number of "reasonable" print modes. The list below shows those that are part of our current release
of support for this printer. Pressing the Properties button next to the Printer Model window on the Imaging Configurations screen will launch a control panel for this printer.
Print Mode: In general, only one or two modes will be suitable
for any particular combination of ink and paper.
Inclusion of the "v" in the mode name ( vPhoto, vSuper, vNormal ) indicates a variable dot mode.
These variable dot modes use a smaller dot than the non "v" modes. The modes marked "-Fixed"
use variable dots as a fixed-dot mode. For these modes, you can select between three dot sizes--
light, medium, and dark.
To make use of dual ink set modes on the printer, you must select the correct
set of inks when you first install the ink cartridges. According to the Roland
User's Manual, the following selections are available:
PIGMENT 8 COLOR: Pigment ink (orange, green, light cyan, light magenta, black,
cyan, magenta, and yellow)
PIGMENT 4 COLOR: Pigment ink (two sets of black, cyan, magenta, and yellow)
DYE 4 COLOR: Dye-base ink (two sets of black, cyan, magenta, and yellow)
PIGMENT & DYE 4: Dye-based ink (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow) and pigment
ink (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow)
For the first three modes, it is not necessary to specify any settings inside
of Wasatch SoftRIP. However, for the Pigment/Dye dual inkset mode, you must
select the "Ink Type" above to select that ink set in the printer. (If you do not
have both pigment and dye inks installed in the printer, this selection is
irrelevant.)
