Canon W2200

Pressing the Properties button for this device will launch the window shown below. On this window, you can select the paper type, print quality and print mode for the printer.

  • Paper Type: You should select the Paper Type before configuring the rest of your settings. The Paper Type selected will determine the Print Quality choices available. If your media type is not listed select the closest match.
  • Print Quality: Depending on your Paper Type, you will have quality settings ranging from 'Draft' to 'High'.
  • Paper Size: Choose the size of the paper that is currently loaded.
  • Print Mode: There is a "Variable Dot" Print Mode and a "Fixed Dot" Print Mode. The "Fixed Dot" Print mode will always have a RIP resolution of 1200x1200dpi.
  • Paper Tray:
    • Manual Feed: The printer will expect to be fed from the manual feed tray.
    • Cassette 1: The main cassette.
    • Optional Cassette: a second optional cassette.
    • Auto: The setting on the front panel must match the Paper Type sent from the driver. This enables one to load a paper type in one cassette and another type in another cassette. The printer will print out of the correct cassette depending on what paper type was picked in the driver properties. Do not use 'Auto' unless there are two cassettes loaded.
  • Print Monochrome: If this box is checked, the seperation controls will be activated and the driver will rip and print in monochrome.
  • Description: This box is for informational purposes only. It will display the resolution, number of passes, the head direction that the printer will use, whether fixed or variable dots and the color types that are used. The settings in this box are determined by 'Paper Type', 'Quality' and 'Print Mode'.

Monochrome Print Modes:

The Color Separations controls are the same as those of other printers, and are only available if a monochrome mode has been selected as the Print Mode (See above).

  • Separations on RIP: This will cause the RIP to separate the image into CMYK plates.
  • Make Negative: This inverts monochrome images when printed.
  • KCMY56: This allows you to print monochrome images to any of the heads in the printer. This is especially useful to eliminate overuse of a single printhead when printing only monochrome.

IEEE-1394 (Firewire) Interfacing:

Due to fast print speeds in draft modes, IEEE-1394 is recommended in order to reduce possible print head pausing. Canon distributes their own driver component for IEEE-1394 that must be installed in Windows. This will create a printer port that a "Generic / Text Only" driver will point to. Note that Canon's driver is for Windows 2000 and XP only

When you connect the Canon Prograf to your Windows system, you will be asked to provide the location of Canon’s driver. To obtain the IEEE1394 driver, contact Canon or download the drivers from the Canon web site. For information on setting up the Generic / Text Only driver see the Printing through a Windows Driver section and Using IEEE-1394 (FireWire) Connections section of the Physical Connections page.
