Canon 7200/7250

February 25, 2004

Pressing the Properties button for this device will launch the window shown below. On this window, you can select the print mode, media type, quality and cutting mode for the printer.

  • Print Mode: The resolution and quality of your print will be determined by this selection.  For example, resolutions of 300x1200 will only have a 'Draft' quality mode.
  • Media Type: You should select the Media Type before configuring the rest of your settings. The Media Type you select will determine the Quality choices available. If your media type is not listed select the closest match.
  • Quality: Depending on your Media Type, you will have quality settings ranging from 'Draft' to 'High'.
  • Auto Cut: This turns the cutter 'On' or 'Off' for the current print. This control is not available when a sheet is loaded
  • Description: This box is for informational purposes only. It will display the number of passes, the speed and the head direction that the printer will use. The settings in this box are determined by both the 'Media Type' and 'Print Mode'.
  • Paper Source: Choose the appropriate setting when loading either a sheet or a roll into the printer.

Monochrome Print Modes:

The Color Separations controls are the same as those of other printers, and are only available if a monochrome mode has been selected as the Print Mode (See above).

  • Separations on RIP: This will cause the RIP to separate the image into CMYK plates.
  • Make Negative: This inverts monochrome images when printed.
  • KCMY56: This allows you to print monochrome images to any of the heads in the printer. This is especially useful to eliminate overuse of a single printhead when printing only monochrome.

IEEE-1394 (Firewire) Interfacing:

Due to fast print speeds in draft modes, IEEE-1394 is recommended in order to reduce possible print head pausing. Canon distributes their own driver component for IEEE-1394 that must be installed in Windows. This will create a printer port that a "Generic / Text Only" driver will point to. Note that Canon's driver is for Windows 2000 and XP.

When you connect the Canon Prograf to your Windows system, you will be asked to provide the location of Canon’s driver. To obtain the IEEE1394 driver, contact Canon or download the drivers from the Canon web site. For information on setting up the Generic / Text Only driver see the Printing through a Windows Driver section and Using IEEE-1394 (FireWire) Connections section of the Physical Connection Help.
